WTAE Upgrades With Utah Scientific

Utah Scientific of Salt Lake City said Hearst-Argyle’s WTAE in Pittsburgh installed a Utah-400 routing switcher with the company’s MC-2020 master control system, configured with one each SD and HD channel. Because the MC-2020 uses the crosspoints in the Utah-400 frame, WTAE can achieve full-featured master control switching without buying an additional matrix.

Utah Scientific said WTAE used one of its analog routers for almost 30 years before going digital. Dave Kasperek, director of engineering at WTAE, said it made sense for the station to keep working with Utah Scientific.

WTAE, the Pittsburgh ABC affiliate, broadcasts 44 hours of local news each week on three channels--the analog feed, the digital simulcast and a new digital multicast traffic and weather channel. The live noon news is also streamed live to the Web, as aided by the Utah-400.
