KNVN-TV & KJWY-TV to get a one-way ticket to Jersey
CONCORD, N.H.: PMCM TV is asking the FCC to let it move its two TV stations from the Midwest to markets on the Eastern Seaboard. DelewareOnline reports that PMCM, owner of KNVN-TV in Ely, Nev., and KJWY in Jackson, Wyo., asked the FCC to let it transfer those station licenses to Monmoth, N.J., and Wilmington, Del., respectively. PMCM operates six radio stations in New Jersey. The East Coast markets were left with no full-power VHF stations in last week’s transition to all-digital broadcasting. KNVN is an NBC affiliate; KJWY is a satellite for NBC affiliate KPVI in Pocatello, Idaho.
WHYY Dumps 46-Year-Old Local Newscast
PHILADELPHIA: WHYY-TV, a PBS affiliate serving Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, is doing away with a local newscast that it’s run for 46 years. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that WHYY is nixing “Delaware Tonight” as of July 17. Economics drove the decision. The station will instead expand its news coverage online and on its FM radio station. WHYY laid of 17 people in April, and is selling its Wilmington, Del., studio for an asking price of $1.7 million. The governor of Delaware said the move to ax the newscast called the station’s commitment to the state into question.
WNBC Replaces Newscast with Fashioncast
NEW YORK: WNBC-TV is replacing its 5 p.m. newscast with an entertainment show targeting women, The New York Daily News reports. The NBC O&O in the nation’s No. 1 market is said to be the first in New York City to drop a traditional newscast in the time period. On Sept. 14, the station will start airing “LX New York,” a live, one-hour lifestyle and fashion show for women 25 to 54. The station will continue providing local evening newscasts at 6 and 11 p.m.
