Sony sponsors ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2009

Sony's Business and Professional Products Asia Pacific Company (BPPA) has become a Major Sponsor of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's (ABU) Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2009 (DBS), which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 9-12 March 2009.

The symposium, themed 'Towards Higher Definition in Radio & Television', is the fifth in a series of annual symposiums organised by the ABU to help radio and television broadcasters make the digital transition. The 2008 symposium attracted more than 300 delegates from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

DBS 2009 will feature presentations by experts, panel discussions and workshops, as well as an exhibition showcasing the latest broadcasting products and services. This year's event will address several developments in broadcasting and IPTV, and will focus on achieving higher quality in digital television and in digital radio services. More than 50 high-profile speakers from around the world will keep the attendees informed with cutting-edge developments in their area of interest.

The Director of the ABU's Technical Department, Sharad Sadhu, said: "Sony has consistently supported the ABU in its activities towards development of broadcasting in the region. In particular, Sony has been a strong supporter of the ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposiums. We are very pleased that Sony has extended its valuable support to the event in March next."

"The symposium addresses a wide variety of current topics, ranging from the latest digital compression, TV and radio production, infrastructure implementation to HDTV and high quality digital radio services. We invite all broadcasting industry players to participate. Given the way that the event is shaping up, participation in the event will bring values in making the most appropriate choices on strategies in development of infrastructure and in eventual migration to digital services."

In addition to securing support from Sony, the event has attracted sponsorship from major industry players, including Broadcast Australia, Globecast, Rohde & Schwarz, Technomedia, World DMB Forum, Commercial Radio Australia, Panasonic, Conax, LS telcom, Net Insight, RFS, OmniBus, Benchmark, Nautel, Newtec, Kordia, Measat, Gencom, Datavideo Technologies and HD-Radio.
