Modulus Demos ME2000 Family of MPEG-4 AVC Encoders

Reflecting the dynamic nature of the IPTV market it serves, Modulus Video today began demonstrating its new ME2000 family of MPEG-4 AVC encoders to attendees at GLOBALCOMM 2006 in Chicago, McCormick Place, Booth 67091. The world's first compact (1 rack unit) multi-format encoding platform, the ME2000 series expands Modulus Video's market leading line of AVC encoders with a system that can be easily switched via a software control between high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video outputs.

"Change is a constant pressure on operators, particularly as they move into new markets based on new technologies," said Gary Schultz, President and Principal Analyst of Multimedia Research Group. Inc. (MRG). "By building format flexibility into its products, Modulus Video is anticipating the dexterity operators need to respond to constant competitive pressures."

The ME2000 platform shares the award-winning features of the Modulus Video ME6000, the market-leading HD IPTV encoding system, including:

o Low resolution proxy for program guide, monitoring and Microsoft TV Picture in Picture (PIP)

o Support for ad insertion triggers to streamline revenue generating operations

o Constrained Fidelity Constant Bit Rate (CF-CBR) feature that is a variable bit rate mode that ensures delivery of high-quality HD at the lowest possible bit rates

o Interoperability with leading systems management tools

Three configurations of the new platform are available as follows:

The ME2600 High Definition MPEG-4 AVC Video Encoder provides operators with a lower cost alternative to the market-leading Modulus Video ME6000, providing the performance and features needed in a compact package that readily adapts to evolving head end requirements.

The ME2100 Standard Definition MPEG-4 AVC Video Encoder provides operators with the option to purchase a low-cost SD version today, and then upgrade to HD with the purchase of a software key when needs change.

The ME2020 Standard Definition MPEG-4 AVC Video Encoder provides operators with the same functionality as the ME2100 without the ability to upgrade to HD.

Bob Wilson, Chairman and CEO of Modulus Video said, "To help our customers achieve their objectives, Modulus Video focuses on the full breadth of their needs. We began by delivering the best quality video in the least bandwidth and then expanded the toolset and interoperability to give them precision control, management and flexibility. With the new ME2000 platform, we have continued to advance the technology while also addressing the underlying risk to help operators control their capital and operating costs."

Availability of all configurations is expected this summer.
