Fire Takes KXAS-TV Off the Air

FORT WORTH, TEXAS: An electrical fire at KXAS-TV in this Texas metroplex knocked the station off the air last week and triggered an evacuation of the studio. The fire was discovered last Thursday night in the NBC affiliate’s electrical room, interrupting the 10 p.m. newscast and forcing sister Telemundo affiliate, KXTX off the air as well.

Around 50 people were evacuated, according to The Associated Press. The fire was extinguished around 11:30 p.m., and the stations’ broadcasts were restored at around 2 a.m. on Friday. No injuries were reported.

KXAS said the blaze started in an electrical panel that was part of the station’s back-up power system, though the cause has not been identified. KXAS is majority owned by NBC; with LIN TV holding a minority share.
