Crispin Completes System 2000 Installation at St. Petersburg CBS Affiliate WTSP-TV

Crispin Corporation, a leading worldwide provider of broadcast automation software, equipment, services and support, today announced the completion of a System 2000 installation at WTSP-TV, a St. Petersburg, FL CBS affiliate.

WTSP selected Crispin’s System 2000 suite of applications to support asset management, satellite recording, media ingest, device control, traffic translation and control of four channels for on-air playback. The Crispin solution includes five workstations, each focused on a specific workflow task.

WTSP operators use TurboBrowser, a companion application to RapidPlayX, to quickly search and find any video clip in their system. Once located, operators can simply drag and drop clips into the playlist for immediate playout or into a user-definable on-screen file cabinet. With approximately 100 file cabinet entries per channel, WTSP operators have unmatched flexibility to insert alternate events (interstitials, commercials, evergreen material) or entire blocks of material to accommodate last-minute changes to the schedule.

WTSP selected Crispin’s RecordScheduler to execute consecutive daily schedules of program acquisition events. Operators can manually record events or create a complete daily schedule generated via program templates in AssetBase. With RecordScheduler, WTSP can record parallel events - allowing for overlapping or simultaneous record events. It’s flexible enough that operators can make dynamic changes to the record schedule, allowing for last-minute source or destination changes.

WTSP uses Crispin's Dubber application to control multiple source devices, allowing their operators to acquire and prepare video assets for air. Dubber provides all of the tools needed to speed and simplify the acquisition and preparation of material for fully automated on-air playback.

The tightly integrated system is fully configured to match WTSP’s requirements and includes control for the creation of their on-air playback channels. Crispin’s highly configurable on-air playback application, RapidPlayX provides playlist monitoring and control for their on-air channels, allowing operators to create and load playlists, edit events, issue playlist commands and monitor event status.

Crispin’s Mapper application converts WTSP’s daily Wide Orbit traffic schedule into an automated playlist, ready for on-air playback by RapidPlayX. Properly interfacing the traffic system is critical to successful automation. During operation, as-run data is written back to traffic for reconciliation within the traffic system.

The facility uses AssetBase to monitor and track specific video assets through metadata such as house numbers, ISCI, comments, durations and cue points on various video servers and videotape inventory; these database features provide operators with additional methods to search and retrieve information while increasing workflow. WTSP personnel can automatically create and manage associated metadata, such as program length, date shot, editor and number of times aired. ClipCopX, which integrates nicely with AssetBase, allows WTSP users to copy, transfer and delete files (automatically or on request) between video servers.
