Chicago PBS Member Station WTTW Picks SGL For HD Archive

Software Generation Ltd (SGL), a leading provider of content archive and storage management software for media and entertainment, has been selected by Network Chicago, a PBS member station and home of WTTW, to provide SGL FlashNet as a major part of its HD channel archive.

WWTW has integrated the SGL archive management system with Avid’s Media Stream 8000si server and a Storage Tech SL500 Library System, in conjunction with its existing Sundance Automation system. The system went on air for the first time in January 2007.

Ron Yergovich, WTTW vice president, Engineering commented, “We have three phases planned for this archive upgrade. This is phase one, phase two is an expansion of the system, which will include the SD side of our broadcast operation, phase three will see the system encompass our production operation.” He added, “We chose FlashNet because of its price, ease of operation, interoperability with Avid and because of flexibility in growing the system as our requirements expand.”

Steve Atkinson, SGL’s Vice President, Americas concluded, “We are delighted to announce this sale to WTTW. FlashNet's high levels of redundancy and unrivalled data transfer capability fit seamlessly into any environment, regardless of existing architecture providing stations such as WTTW with a fail safe system that delivers every time.”

WTTW reaches more than two million viewers in the Illinois region every week with three television broadcast services—WTTW11, WTTWD, and WTTW Create. WTTW11 is the network’s traditional analogue service, broadcasting on Channel 11 for more than 50 years.
