According to the Consumer Electronics Association, 30 percent of U.S. households currently have an HDTV, and a third of those homes own more than one. The group predicts that 16 million HD sets will be sold in 2007, bringing the total to 52.5 million, and the percentage of HD households will jump to 36.
The CEA’s study notes that only 44 percent of HDTV owners actually receive HD programming. The main reasons stated by consumers is that it’s too expensive or that they are not interested, but the vast majority of owners understand what programming they do and do not receive.
According to the study, most consumers purchased the HD sets to enhance their gaming and movie experiences. A DVD player is the most common device connected to an HDTV not receiving HD programming.
