Blackmagic Design Announces Upgrade Program

(November 20, 2003) Tokyo, Japan--Blackmagic Design has announced an upgrade program for all Kona HD and Kona SD users to DeckLink HD for $995. For two years, Kona SD and Kona HD have been compatible with the Blackmagic Design QuickTime drivers. As systems get faster, and PCI-X becomes standard on new Apple G5 tower systems, customers can now upgrade to DeckLink HD to take advantage of that speed.

Kona HD users can upgrade to a much faster card with full PCI-X 133/100 MHz speed. Kona SD users will receive an upgrade path to full uncompressed HDTV 10-bit video capture and playback, while still being able to use standard definition now.

"We really know our Kona SD and Kona HD customers will love this upgrade. They now have a firm answer on the future of their video editing system with the amazing power of DeckLink HD," said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. "With the more modern design of DeckLink HD, we can provide software-based enhancements over time that were just not possible on the older Kona hardware architecture."

DeckLink HD upgrades will require the exchange of the original Kona board to Blackmagic
