Carter Named President and General Manager of WESH

James J. Carter was named president and general manager of WESH and WKCF, the Hearst-Argyle NBC and CW affiliates in the Orlando, Fla. market.

Carter was previously president and general manager of WLKY-TV, the Hearst-Argyle CBS affiliate in Louisville, Kent. He ran WLKY since 1999. The station has claimed the top-rated late news spot in the market for 21 of the last 22 rating periods, and won nine regional Emmy Awards. Before the gig at WLKY, Carter was vice president of sales at WTAE, the Hearst-Argyle ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh.

He came to television via radio stations owned by Hearst in Pittsburgh, and started his career as an ad executive in Omaha.

Carter succeeds Bill Bauman at WESH. Bauman announced his retirement last month. Carter’s successor in Louisville will be named at a later date, Hearst-Argyle said.
