AES Session to Focus on Audio for ENG

One of the highlights of an Audio Engineering Society convention is the time spent in a useful session. Learning something new or making an important contact can make a convention trip for many visitors.

At the upcoming AES convention in New York, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Radio World Contributing Editor Skip Pizzi will be examining “Audio for News Gathering,” Saturday, Oct. 10, 2–3:30 p.m.

Pizzi will be joined speakers from both radio and TV including Andrew Butterworth, connectivity specialist, BBC News; Robert Duncan, Foreign Desk Operations, NPR; Mike Noseworthy, senior audio engineer, NBC Network News Field Operations; and Chris Tobin, broadcast technologist, CBS Radio.

Topics will include technologies available and soon to be available, the changing face of communication networks in acquisition and delivery, and where it all might be going.

Pizzi said, “This is an important but often overlooked area of audio engineering — in fact, I can’t remember the last time AES devoted a session to it. There are a lot of special techniques developed by practitioners in this space that are worth sharing, along with several new telecom and digital recording systems that lend themselves to application here.”
