Scientific-Atlanta to Retail New HD Set-Top
Scientific-Atlanta has announced a new Explorer set-top that will be available to consumers through retail outlets starting this Fall.

The Explorer 3270HD, which will be bundled along with Cox Communications' HDTV service, will be available at Best Buy retail stores in Phoenix, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Pensacola, Fla. and Northern Virginia with future expansion on tap.

The Explorer 3270HD will include DVI 1.0, IEEE 1394 and component outputs as well as support 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i scan rates. The set-top will provide features similar to those on the SD Explorer models, including VOD, broadcast digital cable and broadcast analog cable.

HDTV viewers using the Explorer can select the on-screen menu or a button on the set-top's remote control to stretch and zoom video for full-screen viewing. Its interactive programming guide can scale the video for the program in progress in a small window on the screen while reviewing other choices. The 3270HD can display an HD image for viewing and convert the video to SD for VCR recording.
