JVC Unveils New 3-CCD Camcorder
JVC is adding a new 3-CCD camcorder to its DV camera line.

The GY-DV5100U is a 12-bit ADC Pro-DV camcorder geared towards ENG and professional production. The camcorder uses a newly developed 24 bit DSP that produces higher resolution images with dramatically less visible noise than previous models, according to the company. It integrates with the JVC direct-to-edit (DTE) disc recording module, the DR-DV5000U. This optional module allows users to edit directly from the files that the camera creates, without the need to digitize first. The DR-DV5000U attaches to the camera through a built-in 52-pin connectors and works with the camera's CPU.

To accommodate the need for widescreen programming, JVC added a 16:9 module and a "high res frame mode" to add a cinematic effect.

Customization options include new variable enhancement frequencies and audio features have been expanded with 3 XLR mic connectors that are built in.

The GY-DV5100U ships this month.
