ENCO Adds Surround Sound
ENCO Systems has added support for multichannel 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound to its digital audio automation and playout system.

The digital audio delivery system--DAD and DADtv--enable audio engineers to quickly incorporate surround sound in live studio programs as well as field-produced programs. The 5.1 and 7.1 audio files appear the same of the user the same way as stereo or mono files appear. Files are stored as single linear uncompressed files using industry standard interleaved.

DADtv was used in the Oct. 1 debut of Saturday Night Live on NBC in both scoring playback and surround sound effects in the first HDTV broadcast of the sketch comedy show.
