Dolby will showcase its new Dolby Digital Plus for HD packaged media at the AES Convention in San Francisco.

The peak date rate extends the Dolby Digital format from 640 kbps up to 6 Mbps. Dolby Digital Plus offers discrete channel coverage beyond the current 5.1 standard, such as 7.1.

The Dolby Pro Logic II that provides surround sound will also be on display. The pitch shift tool Dolby 585 will also be on display.

Dolby representatives will present papers on audio coding, posters as well as psychoacoustics, perception and listening tests.

Additionally, AES workshops featuring Dolby personnel will take place, including, "Spatial Coding of Surround Sound" and "Mastering for Low-Bit Rate Perceptual Codecs."

Dolby will be in Booth 1402 at AES2004, Oct. 28-31. For more information, visit www.aes.org.
