Sony's New HD Set-Top Targets Terrestrial, Cable and Satellite DTV

Sony Electronics has unveiled a new HD set-top capable of receiving analog and digital terrestrial, cable and satellite signals.

The SAT-HD200 box will be marketed with DirecTV's DBS service and also incorporates a Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection that allows uncompressed digital video to be delivered to TV sets outfitted with the High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection specification.

The receiver features multiple format modes that can be selected from the remote control and front panel display to best reproduce the original broadcast on a variety of television models. It handles multiple conversion of all 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i broadcast formats and implements three variable settings that can automatically change the format depending on the original broadcast signal.

One of the multiple-format modes is the Auto DVI setting that allows automatic format change depending on the DVI-HDTV enabled television set.

The SAT-HD200 will be available in September for about $900.
