Linx, Crispin Provide Automated PSIP for Liberty Stations

Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) has several functions in DTV broadcasting, including the display of a station's programming by a viewer at home. Linx Electronics and Crispin Corporation recently announced that the two companies combined technology to provide the automated delivery of DTV programming information at three stations owned by Liberty Broadcasting.

At each of these three stations, a Linx TVLinx PSIP generator receives program data from the Crispin automation system, which permits detailed programming information in viewers on-screen programming guides. This PSIP process is automated with the combined Linx-Crispin system, using data that is entered into the station's automation and traffic systems. To integrate the two companies' technologies, Linx and Crispin implemented part of the Programming Metadata Communications Protocol (PCMP), one of the ATSC's recently announced candidate standards.
