Grass Valley’s Mobile DTV System Ready to Fly

Grass Valley has announced that its Thomson ATSC Mobile DTV transmission system has completed its testing stage and is now ready to be deployed by the nation’s broadcasters.

“This is an exciting time for broadcasters looking to build out mobile video services,” said Richard Fiore, Grass Valley’s senior director for Transmissions and Mobility. “Grass Valley has been very careful to develop a robust and reliable system that can be cost-effectively implemented in a very short amount of time.”

The technology behind the new system is based on the recently approved ATSC Mobile DTV standard A/153 and will enable television stations to use their existing channel and 8-VSB modulation system to reach mobile and pedestrian viewers. It is very readily implemented and involves program encoders, a multiplexer, an electronic services guide server and a compatible DTV transmission exciter.
