Front Porch Launches Videotape Migration System
December 16, 2008
Front Porch Digital has inaugurated a new product designed for migrating video content away from legacy video tape and onto high density data tape. The DIVAsolo incorporates three technologies—the SAMMA Solo robotic migration hardware device and Front Porch’s DIVArchive and DIVAdirector—into a scalable system for migrating various sizes of videotape collections.
DIVAsolo’s development was enabled by the acquisition of SAMMA Systems by Front Porch Digital. It uses the latter’s content management system to store and protect video files encoded by the SAMMA migration appliance.
"Even today, most of the world's media remains trapped on vulnerable videotape," said Mike Knaisch, Front Porch Digital president and CEO. "DIVAsolo is truly a groundbreaking product—the first ever to offer a practical and cost-effective means of migrating media content on video to reliable, secure, and more easily accessed digital storage. DIVAsolo is highly scalable, which makes it suitable for archives of all sizes, but we anticipate it will be particularly welcomed by facilities feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of videotape they have in storage."
