Atlanta Drivers ‘Beat the Traffic’

With over 1.7 million drivers on the road at peak times, Atlanta has some of the worst traffic conditions in the country.

Drivers have a new weapon—or at least more compelling and feature-rich traffic reports on TV—as local station WSB’s “Triple Team Traffic” coverage is now using a new Beat the Traffic reporting system from Campbell, Calif.-based Triangle Software.

Beat the Traffic’s technology creates animated 3-D traffic maps that show real-time traffic speeds, incidents and travel times during Channel 2 Action News traffic segments and, coming soon, live streaming 24/7 on www.wsbtv.com. Reporters are able to virtually “fly” into traffic hotspots.

“Atlanta drivers face one of the toughest commutes in the nation. It affects our quality of life and costs the region over $2 billion per year”, said WSB-TV News Director Marian Pittman. “Our viewers are always looking for reliable, innovative traffic reports that allow them to make smart decisions about when to leave home and what route to take to work.”

Beat the Traffic’s features include 3-D animated maps and landmarks, up-to-the-minute traffic flows and current and forecasted travel times.

“We are proud to help WSB-TV serve its viewers in this large and traffic-challenged market” said Andre Gueziec, president and CEO of Triangle Software. “We are confident that Channel 2 Action News viewers will appreciate the dynamic, high-definition traffic graphics and accurate travel times, incident information and forecasts. It’s exciting to see WSB-TV be the first in Atlanta to Beat the Traffic.”
