AP's ENPS Spans the Globe

Associated Press' ENPS news production system, which will debut in a 4.0 version this spring, is being installed by Canal Once, Latin America's first public service broadcaster, and Sahara Samay Rashtriya, India's national 24-hour news channel.

Canal Once, based at Mexico's National Polytechnic Institute, is using ENPS to control several MOS-compatible components. Using MOS, ENPS sends synchronized playlists to a Thomson Grass Valley Profile XP Server for on-air playback and also works with the script database for the channel's +WinPlus+ prompting system from BDL Autoscript.

In India, ENPS is the center of Sahara Samay Rashtriya's automated digital newsroom in New Delhi. It ingests material into a Leitch VR400 video server for journalists to browse and edit at their ENPS desktops using Hy-Brow and Headline software from OmniBus Systems. Producers can control both live studio programs and automated newswheel transmissions via an Omnibus Columbus automation system. Graphics and animated captions are created by reporters using an ActiveX plug-in from ENPS from Vizrt, which controls studio playout from the company's content pilot system.
New ENPS features to be released on the 4.0 version enable publishing to the Internet, wireless PDA's, mobile phones and print systems. Text and media output can be customized for public access as well as internal users and reporters in the field. AP says other tools offer news wire browsing technology, access to AP GraphicsBank images and AP PrimeCuts sound bites via embedded wire story links and improvements to ENPS stats.
