WFAA-TV Does HD From a Grass Valley Kayak
WFAA is originating its local HD newscasts using a suite of Grass Valley gear from Thomson. The inventory at WFAA includes Grass Valley LDK 4000 HD cameras and a Kayak HD video production switcher.
The equipment is employed in an arrangement that reflects the increased implementation of fiber and remote applications. The newscast is broadcast from a 4,000-square-foot studio, but produced in WFAA headquarters nearly a mile away. The Belo-owned station is using four LDK 4000s at the new Victory Park development near Dallas, and four more in the existing Young Street location in Dallas. The station also has newsrooms in Fort Worth and Frisco, Texas.
The studio in Victory Park, home of the Mavericks and Dallas Stars, opened Jan. 8 and started full HD operations Feb. 2. The studio does not include its own control room; rather, the LDK 4000 feeds are sent back to Young Street on fiber and taken into the Kayak before going to air.
