KCRG-TV Moving to File-Based Ops With GV Gear
July 15, 2009
KCRG-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is transitioning to a file-based operation allowing it to automatically record and play out syndicated programming and commercials in high definition.
The station is using Grass Valley's K2 SD/HD media servers, K2 Capture software and a GV Maestro branding and master control switching system as part of the new infrastructure that makes this possible. "The Grass Valley HD playout system will make us more productive and allow us to automatically do a number of tasks we previously did manually," said John Phelan, KCRG-TV's vice president and general manager. "Moving to a file-based system, although complex, was exactly what we needed at KCRG, and Grass Valley made that transition smooth and seamless with rock solid technologies and great customer support." The station is using a Grass Valley Concerto HD router, and also GV's NetProcessor and Pearl systems to generate and display PSIP information for the station's programming. The installation is expected to be completed in September.
