JVC, Radyne ComStream Partner on HD Distribution
JVC Professional Products and Radyne ComStream will partner to produce products that improve the delivery of MPEG-2 high-definition TV signals. The two companies are targeting the products and systems at live-event distribution to digital theaters.

The system will use the JVC DM-D4600U decoder and the Tiernan (Radyne ComStream) THE15A encoder to deliver 4:2:2 MPEG-2 HD at transport stream rates higher than 70 Mbps. According to the two companies, the combination of high data rates and 4:2:2 sampling yield image quality that is significantly better than the 4:2:0 sampling used by most HD distribution systems.

The combination of JVC and Radyne ComStream technology also delivers 5.1 Surround Sound. Other uses for the technology include HD video conferencing, distance learning and telemedicine. The DM-D4600U and THE15A will be available from either vendor.
