DirecTV Taps Grass Valley for Compression Gear
DirecTV has purchased nearly $8 million worth of Grass Valley's ViBE MPEG-2 compression technology to expand the capabilities of its broadcast complex.

"As our customers demand more choice, including high-definition programming and other services, DirecTV continues to upgrade its systems to accommodate this significant growth," said Don Jones, vice president of Broadcast Operations at DirecTV Inc. "The Grass Valley ViBE platform allows us to do that while maintaining and even improving our picture quality."

DirecTV has been using Grass Valley ViBE since 2003, as it expanded its local-into-local service. The company place additional equipment orders with Grass Valley earlier this year.
