HaiVision Makito Packs Encoding, Distribution Punch
(From Government Video)

HaiVision Network Video, fresh off its merger with Video Furnace, launched Makito, a compact high-definition video encoder with H.264 video compression, supporting formats all the way up to 1080p60. And Makito integrates with HaiVision’s Video Furnace System 5 for complete end-to-end HD H.264 IP video distribution solution.

The Makito has many of the advanced features of the HaiVision hai1000 MAKO-HD platform, including the ability to produce multiple streams in different formats from a single source (HiLo Streaming)—all on a single Gigabit Ethernet cable—sending high bit rate video to high-performance endpoints and lower-bandwidth video for mass consumption.

Put another way, the system can encode content once and send to users with different needs, and can do it with latency of just 70 ms.

For good measure, Video Furnace enables encryption for secure IP distribution to set-top boxes, computers, signage networks and more.

It also enables features like electronic program guides for the end users, and enterprise administrators can send crawls and other effects to specific destinations.

Makito is compatible with a wide variety of video-over-IP systems, streaming servers for distribution to Flash and QuickTime, set top boxes and soft players including HaiVision’s “zero footprint” InStream desktop player.

The Makito is available as a compact appliance or in a mini-blade format. HaiVision’s new 4 RU chassis can hold up to 21 Makitos.

HaiVision and Video Furnace merged in March and the combined company launched Makito at the 2009 NAB Show.
