), the most-visited gaming Web site in the world, is using Fathom to encode footage of the three major press conferences from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, in addition to other event content.

Using Fathom, GameSpot will encode and post HD versions of all 57 stage show demonstrations moments after they take place. Instead of having to wait hours for the file encode as in years past, GameSpot can now post a new HD stage demo every 15 minutes. In total, GameSpot expects to upload over 300 individual videos and up to 30 hours of E3 content to its site during the show.
GameSpot’s live stage show and video coverage of the three-day event has become a staple of the E3 experience for home viewers, confirmed by record traffic and activity, including 14 million views of video during the month of last year’s conference. With Fathom, the ability to process HD content much more quickly and efficiently is expected to drive viewership to an even higher rate.
It has always been a huge challenge for GameSpot to quickly encode all 19 hours of the stage show in HD while also rendering and posting gameplay movies, trailers, developer interviews, and booth tours. The organization devoted a great deal of time and resources in the past to try to streamline the process of getting the enormous amounts of HD content to viewers.
