SALT LAKE CITY — June 2, 2008 — Utah Scientific today announced that KSHB, an NBC affiliate station in Kansas City, Mo., has installed Utah HD and SD master control processors, a UTAH-400 router, and an SC-4 control system. A new Utah Scientific customer, KSHB is a Scripps-Howard station that operates Kansas City's NBC affiliate, TV-41, and an independent entertainment station, KMCI 38 The Spot.

"Our legacy system had grown over time to be so complex that it was a logistical nightmare," said KSHB Director of Engineering Jay Nix. "Knowing we had to make a change, we looked at several vendors. I had worked with Utah Scientific equipment at other stations and had only good experience with them. In the end, the dealmaker was Utah Scientific's 10-year, no-fee warranty."

At KSHB, a UTAH-400 router, V-288R frame-loaded HD 224x160, and A-288R frame-loaded AES 224x160, is replacing six legacy routers from another vendor. The installation also incorporates all-new master control equipment, including two MCP-2020 panels, two SD-2020 processors, and two HD-2020 processors. The new master control system eliminates a cumbersome set-up in which the HD switcher was on the other side of the control room. Now, KSHB operators can switch all four program streams from a single location, meaning they can work faster and more flexibly.

"Utah Scientific's 10-year, no-fee warranty is unrivaled in the business," said Tom Harmon, president and CEO of Utah Scientific. "We can offer it with total confidence because we know how reliable our equipment is. In the useful lifespan of any equipment we manufacture, 10 years is nothing."

With the installation of the Utah Scientific routers at KSHB, Utah effectively has cornered the market in Kansas City. Every television broadcaster in the No. 31 Nielsen market now relies on Utah Scientific for routing signals.
