Interface Supports Smooth Exchange of Data Between GuideBuilder PSIP Generator and Florical Automation, Ensures PSIP Schedule Accuracy as Required by FCC
PRINCETON, N.J. -- April 4, 2008 -- Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics (LGE), today announced the development of an interface enabling a seamless exchange of data between the company‘s GuideBuilder™ PSIP (Program and System Information Protocol) generation system and Florical Systems‘ AirGuide™ interface. The interoperability of GuideBuilder with the Florical interface via the ATSC PMCP protocol allows broadcasters using Florical on-air automation to meet the FCC report and order (R&O), which stipulates that PSIP schedules reflect reality, including last-minute changes.
“Our products always have been designed to help broadcasters meet the demands of an evolving industry,” said Dr. Richard Chernock, CTO at Triveni Digital. “With the Florical automation interface now available as an option, the GuideBuilder continues to offer our shared clients the functionality required for high-quality content delivery in compliance with FCC mandates.”
PSIP is mandated by the FCC, forms the foundation for ATSC digital television transport streams, and is important for digital cable carriage of over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts. Addressing the 2009 digital switchover, the GuideBuilder PSIP generator from Triveni Digital adheres to the latest changes in the PSIP standard and requirements of the recent FCC R&O. New features include fully automated redundancy, enhancements to support centralized PSIP, and tight integration with multiplexers and automation systems. Integration with automation systems from vendors such as Florical is enabled through use of standardized technology, which in turn ensures a smooth flow of critical scheduling data.
The GuideBuilder system provides mission-critical operational capabilities for both content providers and network operators by generating accurate PSIP data. Errors in PSIP data can cause lapses in the DTV signal, problems with closed captioning, v-chip data, and errors with electronic program guides (EPG) -- all significant concerns for broadcasters. GuideBuilder is also applicable in cable and IPTV networks in meeting their DTV signaling and EPG needs.
