THE WASHINGTON D.C. CONVENTION CENTER, BOOTH # 210, DECEMBER 3-4 – Ikegami, the world-leading manufacturer of high-quality HDTV broadcast and professional video production solutions, is exhibiting a broad array of its leading-edge products at the 2008 Government Video Technology Expo (“GV Tech Expo”), at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in Washington DC.

“Public-sector video professionals are among the world’s most sophisticated and diverse users of television technology,” observes Alan Keil, VP and Director of Engineering for Ikegami. “They work in everything from homeland security to training, from military operations to law enforcement. Government users demand reliability and economy, which is why they’ve long relied on Ikegami products to deliver the performance they demand. A good example of this is tapeless video acquisition. Ikegami introduced the industry’s first tapeless camcorder more than a decade ago, and government users were among the first to recognize the convenience of nonlinear videography. This year we’ll be showing them Ikegami’s newest tapeless innovation, the HDS-V10 tapeless HD camcorder, which is part of our revolutionary new Flash-based GF Series open-solution tapeless HD production system. The advanced network connectivity of all GF Series system components creates the industry’s newest, highly efficient, highly productive, and affordable tapeless HD environment, which is engineered to meet the demands of government video professionals and all segments of the media industry.”

The Tapeless GFSeries HD Production System

Developed in cooperation with Toshiba (a world leader in Flash memory), Ikegami’s GF Series tapeless HD production system includes the GFCAM HDS-V10 tapeless camcorder, the GFSTATION GFS-V10 Flash memory multi-format studio recorder, and GFPAK high-capacity Flash media to record more than two hours of HD video. The GF Series tapeless HD ENG system—which features an open-codec HD/SD architecture, proxy video, and advanced metadata convenience—leverages the increasing integration of IT networking in the broadcast industry and delivers unprecedented file-based HD workflow efficiencies extending from digital video capture, to non-linear editing, to final content delivery.

The GF Series’ GFCAM HDS-V10 tapeless camcorder is an advanced but affordable three-CCD ENG camera featuring 1080i/720p HDTV format support, multiple digital recording modes, and advanced features such as Retro Loop recording to ensure that videographers never miss a shot. The GF Series GFS-V10 multi-format studio recorder looks like a traditional broadcast deck, but offers far more. It is actually a Flash-based central video management and recording system with extensive connectivity that even includes a front-mounted USB port. Both the GFCAM HDS-V10 tapeless camcorder and the GFSTATION GFS-V10 multi-format studio recorder use GFPAK media, a removable Flash memory cartridge with up to 64GB capacity and a convenient USB port for access to file-based video even when GFPAK is not installed in either the HDS-V10 or the GFS-V10.

Ikegami HDTV Cameras at GV Tech Expo 2008

Ikegami’s top-of-the-line HDK-727P native progressive full digital companion camera system is engineered to deliver the clarity and dynamic resolution advantages inherent in 720/60p HDTV, of particular value in many government video applications. The HDK-727P is the portable version of the camera, which also provides 1080/60i and 1080/24p with Ikegami’s optional CCU-790A Engine board. Simultaneous SDTV outputs in analog and digital is a standard feature of the CCU-790A. Advanced 14-bit digital signal processing provides extensive detail- and color-correction features. Using Ikegami’s SE-H700 System Expander, the HDK-727P can be converted into a full-facility studio camera with 9-inch color LCD 16:9 viewfinder and full HDTV studio lens.

Also on display at GV Tech Expo 2008 is Ikegami’s HDK-77EX portable camera system, which is designed for HD production applications requiring portability with compact size, low weight, and an integrated fiber cable adaptor for studio or field use. The HDK-77EX employs 2/3-inch 2.2 million pixel IT CCDs, 14-bit A/D converters, and Ikegami’s Chip C4 advanced digital signal processing ASIC to deliver consistent high picture quality and stable reliability. The camera includes an integrated fiber camera cable system for perfect signal transmission to the compact and cost effective BS-89 base station. With its front and rear plug-in modular design, the BS-89 can be ordered with just the right complement of signal interfaces required. A 2-inch 16:9 CRT HD viewfinder for the HDK-77EX is available for portable use; a 5-inch CRT or a 9-inch LCD 16:9 viewfinder is available for studio applications.

Ikegami will also exhibit its HDL-50 series one-piece end-to-end digital POV cameras, a major advantage of which is their use of newly developed 2.5 Mega-pixel CMOS sensors for native multi-format HD operation, including 1080/59.94i and 720/59.94p directly from the camera head (the HDL-51 sister-model POV camera supports native 1080/23.98p format operation as well). The HDL-F50, meanwhile, is designed to meet the size and signal-transportation requirements for gyro-stabilized aerial camera mounts, and minimizes the number of camera input and output signals, simplifying signal transportation and allowing a gyro-stabilized ball mount to transmit camera signals with a minimum of slip rings. The HDL-F50’s CMOS imager features low power consumption and provides multi-format 1080i or 720p HD image capture.

Ikegami HDTV LCD Monitors at GV Tech Expo 2008

Complementing its line of industry-leading HDTV camera systems, Ikegami will also be exhibiting a selection of its multi-format LCD HDTV/SDTV monitors to serve the high-resolution display needs of government video professionals. Famous for their uncompromising quality, color fidelity, wide critical viewing angles, and space-saving design, Ikegami’s multi-format LCD HD monitors are well-suited to video security and surveillance facilities, mobile production vehicles, post/graphics suites, and all other environments in which space-saving, color-accurate, high-performance color video monitoring are a necessity.

New at this year’s GV Tech Expo is the introduction of Ikegami’s HLM-2450W Wide Full HD (1920 x 1080) 24-inch 16:9 monitor, which accepts a wide range of HD formats and has inputs for: two channels of HD-SDI or SD-SDI; two channels of analog composite video; one channel of RGB or Y, R-Y, B-Y component video (option); and one channel of DVI-D. The new HLM-2450W is ideal for monitoring security, traffic, and production video, as well as many other applications.

Also being exhibited is Ikegami’s HLM-1711WR 17-inch 16:9 WXGA resolution rack- mount color LCD monitor with two channels of HD/SDI or SD/SDI and two channels of analog composite video as a standard feature. The HLM-1711WR employs a revolutionary new LCD panel featuring a significantly improved critical viewing angle. The HLM-1711WR also provides improved rendition of flesh tones and other colors that demand critical evaluation in broadcast professional studios.

Additional Ikegami multi-format LCD HDTV/SDTV monitors at GV Tech Expo include the HLM-920WP 9-inch WVGA resolution monitor and the HLM-910P 8.4-inch XGA resolution monitor. The HLM-910R provides outstanding mobility as Ikegami’s high-end 8.4-inch HDTV LCD color monitor with TFT LCD display. Suitable for mobile or field operation, the HLM-910R can be mounted in a 19-inch rack with a two-monitor configuration. In the field, the HLM-910P is a lightweight accessory that videographers can depend on for accurate HD/SD multi-format video monitoring. Both the HLM-920WP and HLM-910P offer a DC battery input for field use. Ikegami also offers a wide variety of rack-mountable color LCD NTSC/PAL video monitors to suit the many display needs of government video professionals.
