A three-suite, full-service post-production facility focusing primarily on creative editorial and animation, Edit at Joe’s has established a solid reputation for creating fun, imaginative and successful commercials for its local clients for more than five years. However, as its business has grown, increased volume and local storage for each edit suite frequently caused scheduling and workflow bottlenecks. To alleviate its workflow issues while providing greater flexibility, Edit at Joe’s recently installed a shared storage solution from Small Tree, designers of simple-to-install, inexpensive networking and shared storage products for professional video and audio editors using Mac OS X.
With an eye firmly fixed on the bottom line, Edit at Joe’s decided early on that it could not afford an expensive storage technology and requested Small Tree’s budget-friendly Edge-corE ES4524D and PEG4 solution, a part of Small Tree’s new GraniteSTOR product line. Since installing the 24-port Gigabit Ethernet switch and 4-port Ethernet card, Edit at Joe’s has been able to run 80 Gbps whether working on uncompressed standard definition or 422 Prores HQ without a hitch.
“Small Tree’s technology allows file sharing across multiple workstations so that we’re able to turn projects around more easily,” said Joe Murray, president of Edit at Joe’s. “But it’s their commitment to customer support that has been the most pleasant surprise. I know I’m certainly not their biggest customer, but they have spent as much time on the phone as necessary to make sure we were comfortable with the system after installation. That level of support is critical to a small facility such as mine, where I can little afford to have any of my rooms out of commission for even a short amount of time.”
