Integration Combines the Best of Transcoding and Publishing for Joint Streaming Media Customers

RALEIGH, NC – January 21, 2009 – Inlet Technologies, the leader in advanced encoding solutions for new media, announced today that its latest version of SpinnakerTM streaming media software—available exclusively on the Spinnaker family of streaming appliances—now includes support for media delivery solutions from Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leader in powering rich media, dynamic transactions and enterprise applications online. This relationship aims to help joint customers combine Spinnaker’s powerful encoding engine with Akamai’s Media Delivery and Stream OSSM solutions to quickly and easily stream live content over the Internet.

According to recent reports, Content Delivery Network (CDN) services continue to grow and could reach more than $1.3 B in 2008 (Xchange, October 2008). Akamai is at the forefront of that growth. Akamai also delivers between 10-20% of all Web traffic and has the most pervasive platform for content delivery and application acceleration – 40,000 servers in 70 countries within nearly 950 networks.

Spinnaker’s powerful encoding engine is pre-configured to seamlessly support and integrate with Akamai’s Media Delivery and Stream OS solutions, helping content owners simplify and accelerate the live streaming of media.

“Inlet’s Spinnaker fits perfectly with Akamai’s mission of helping customers increase the size and reach of their valuable content libraries to maximize business opportunity,” explained Tim Napoleon, Chief Strategist for Media & Entertainment, Akamai Technologies. “Spinnaker easily integrates with the Akamai network for customers looking to stream video in HD or standard definition and in all the key formats like H.264, VP6 and VC-1.”

This latest version of Spinnaker software includes support for Adobe® Flash® VP6 and H.264 authentication to Akamai in HD and/or SD resolutions; multiple streams, individually authenticated; and the ability to republish H.264 streams that have been disconnected. In addition, Spinnaker supports and authenticates Windows Media/VC-1 live streaming to any CDN, allowing users to broadcast up to four live streams simultaneously to their CDN of choice.

Other enhancements to Spinnaker include a new preview feature, which allows monitoring the incoming video signal before and during a live stream; and a new “sense input” feature that allows users to automatically detect the type of video connected to Spinnaker, helping eliminate issues caused by incorrect settings. All of these software enhancements are available to current Spinnaker owners through a simple software upgrade.

"We are excited to work with Akamai to help our joint customers monetize their content more easily and quickly than ever before,” said Neal Page, Inlet CEO. “Our customers can also take advantage of the quality and automation enhancements this latest version of Spinnaker has to offer, while benefitting from a variety of format and streaming options."

Customers already reaping the streaming media benefits of Spinnaker include Heritage Auctions, Home Shopping Network, MLB Advanced Media, MTV Networks, and numerous other industry leaders.

The Spinnaker family of advanced, live streaming solutions delivers the bandwidth performance and unique features necessary to provide a true broadcast experience over any IP network. Spinnaker’s powerful encoding engine makes it an ideal solution for streaming live events to the Internet.
