Poinciana HSKISSIMMEE, FL — Neutrik USA is helping Poinciana High School give its students real-world experience in connectivity, a vital component for setting up and wiring equipment for broadcast. The company donated several products to Poinciana High School’s TV Production class to help prepare its students for employment as television production operators, television broadcast technicians and camera operators, also as professional broadcast technicians, video recording engineers and audio recording engineers.

At Poinciana High School, students in the TV Production class are exposed to an overview of aspects of TV production, including scripts, lighting, filming and directing, electronic news gathering and field production. Hands-on activities are an integral part of this program and provide instruction in camera principles, audio and video control, lighting methods, control room operation, station operation and set preparation.

Poinciana HS - 2Neutrik provided several of its XX Series XLRs to the school including [20] 3-pole female cable connectors (NC3FXX), [20] 3-pole male cable connectors (NC3MXX), [5] 4-pole male cable connectors (NC4MXX), [5] 4-pole female connectors (NC4FXX), [5] 5-pole female cable connectors (NC5FXX) and [5] 5-pole male cable connectors (NC5MXX). “Neutrik’s donation to our program allows our students to gain valuable experience using the professional gear prevalent in the industry,” says William Bender, television production instructor/director of the TV production department at Poinciana High School. “Neutrik connections are the industry standard and I am happy we are able to provide these, through Neutrik’s generous donation, to our students.”

Poinciana HS - 3Poinciana High School’s TV Production studio is approximately 1,000 sq. ft. with an adjoining control room. The studio employs two JVC GY-DV550 studio cameras with two ITE/H-6 tripod heads on two ITE/P-6 pedestals. The students work with a Panasonic WJ-MX50 switcher and everything is recorded onto a Mac computer. In the field, students use Panasonic’s GY-DV500, GY-DV5000, and GY-DV5100 cameras with hard disk drives. For audio, students turn to Electro-Voice’s EV635, a dynamic interview handheld mic, as well as Electro-Voice’s N/D 308 stand mic. For lighting, the students use several c-stands, fish poles and an Arri D1 lighting kit.

“Neutrik is proud to contribute to Poinciana High School’s TV Production class,” says Pete Milbery, managing director of Neutrik USA. “It is a great initiative in educating students through hands-on experience. We are happy to provide our products for education, as this gives students access to professional-grade television production connectivity, an important, yet overlooked, aspect of broadcast.”
