Widevine features Cypher content protection platform

Widevine showcased the Widevine Cypher multiformat, multiplatform content protection platform at IBC2008.

Used to secure telco, Internet, cable, hybrid distribution delivery to set-top boxes, PVRs, PCs, Macs and other Internet-connected consumer devices, Widevine Cypher is a Hollywood studio-approved solution that lets video operators license and acquire premium content for delivery to connected devices.

Widevine Cypher extends pay-TV services to native video players on PCs, Macs and other Internet consumer devices. It converts MPEG-2 transport streams so they are recognizable by Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime and RealNetworks RealPlayer. Cypher makes it possible for operators to securely deliver existing TV content to retail consumer devices without the need for special connectors, headend equipment or custom player software.

The company also featured it Mensor forensic watermarking and tracking solution.
