Two more Virginia counties grant franchises for Verizon FiOS

Arlington and Loudoun county governments over the past two weeks have authorized Verizon to begin offering its FiOS TV service to about 500,000 residents of northern Virginia.

The Arlington County Board voted June 13 to grant Verizon a cable franchise, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors took similar action June 20. With the votes, the number of jurisdictions in the region to grant Verizon a cable franchise has grown to 13, including:

  • In Virginia: Fairfax, Henrico and Prince William counties; Fairfax, Falls Church, Dumfries and Herndon cities; and the Marine Corps Base at Quantico.
  • In Maryland: Howard county, Laurel and Bowie cities.
