QUALCOMM incorporates NDS simulcast software into MediaFLO

NDS will integrate its simulcrypt synchronizer (SCS) into QUALCOMM’s MediaFLO multiplexer software reference program, allowing more than one conditional access (CA) system to run simultaneously within the program. The move opens the door for QUALCOMM to use open CA solutions from multiple providers.

In preparation for the integration, NDS is customizing the SCS software to meet FLO Forum specifications, the trade organization advocating MediaFLO as a global mobile TV standard. Once the integration is complete, QUALCOMM will test NDS’ VideoGuard CA system on the MediaFLO platform.

MediaFLO is not the only mobile TV transmission technology for which NDS has made the VideoGuard available. Earlier this year, the company announced the integration of the software with RRD’s DVB-H backend. RRD is the media provider that helped set up one of the first DVB-H mobile TV services in the world, Italy’s 3 service.
