Open IPTV Forum nears release of specifications

The pan-industry initiative known as the Open IPTV Forum is close to completing a specification aimed at allowing IPTV to develop into a mass market service, the group said Sept. 9.

Meeting at the headquarters of Sony Europe in Berlin Sept. 8-11, the Open IPTV Forum announced finalization of a number of detailed system and protocol specifications for its first release. The release covers audio and video media formats; content metadata; protocols for home networks, user network and network-to-network interfaces; declarative application environment; procedural application environment; and content and service protection. The specifications will be published on the group’s Web site in mid-November.

The forum also announced the addition of seven new members, including:

  • Neotion;
  • Sigma Designs;
