Harmonic encoders provide HD, SD solution for IPTV

The new Harmonic Electra 7000 high-definition and Electra 5400 standard-definition H.264 encoders enable dramatic reductions in the bit rates required to deliver high-quality video services, freeing up bandwidth to deliver more services per home.

Beyond compression efficiency gains, these multi-service encoders allow operators to increase subscriber reach and introduce new services such as broadband-on-demand by delivering simultaneous video services at different bit rates within the same one rack-unit (RU) platform.

The combination of the Electra encoders with Harmonic's satellite and terrestrial integrated receiver/decoders, the ProStream 2000 H.264 splicer and the ProStream 1000 stream processing platform provide a scalable, remote IP headend solution.
