Despite software concerns, AT&T sees growing IPTV offering
Despite a slower than anticipated roll-out, AT&T will offer its IPTV service to 8 million homes by year's end, according to a Jan. 26 article in the Wall Street Journal online.
Quoting company chief financial officer Rick Lindner, the paper reported that problems with Microsoft's software used in the system is one of the reasons for the slow pace of the service introduction. Changes to billing systems and software enhancements are contributing factors, the report said.
Still, the company continues to add customers and expects to offer 19 million homes the service by the end of next year.
The article quoted the company chairman and chief executive Edward Whitacre as saying the service works.
