AT&T goes portable with U-verse

AT&T has created a new subscription service that gives U-verse subscribers access to live television on a personal computer with a broadband Internet connection.

The service, AT&T U-verse OnTheGo, is available for an extra $10 a month, not including the cost of broadband access. It is being delivered through an agreement between AT&T and MobiTV, a mobile broadband television and music services company.

U-verse OnTheGo subscribers will be able to access nearly 30 channels, including The Weather Channel, Fox News, A&E Broadband and The History Channel Broadband. In the future, the company will add more channels and content, such as VOD movie trailers. It will also eventually make the service available on AT&T wireless devices.

AT&T is in the process of building out a fiber-optic network in its traditional 13-state local telephone service region. Recently, it added Kansas City, extending its national reach to 15 markets across six states.
