FiOS Customer Growth Accelerates
Verizon is accelerating the rollout
of its FiOS TV service.
In the third quarter of 2008, the
company added 233,000 net new FiOS TV customers, compared with 176,000 in the
second quarter of 2008.
It now boasts 1.6 million FiOS YV
customers, more than double the 700,000 at the end of the third quarter of 2007.
FiOS TV penetration is now at 19.7 percent of Verizon’s footprint, (up from
15.2 percent a year ago.) The service is now available to 8.2 million
households.
Verizon also added 225,000 net new
FiOS Internet customers, compared with 187,000 in the second quarter of 2008.
It now has 2.2 million FiOS Internet customers, compared with 1.3 million FiOS
Internet customers at the end of Q3 2007. Internet penetration increased to
24.2 percent (up from 20 percent a year ago.
Broadband and video revenues from non-business
customers was $1.1 billion for the quarter, a 45.3 percent from a year ago.
Verizon said earlier this year it planned to spend $23
billion between 2004 and 2010 to pass 18 million homes.
