Mobile DTV Alliance Formed

Five wireless and entertainment companies have partnered to form the Mobile DTV Alliance, an organization created to promote the growth of Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB).

The new organization includes representatives from Intel Corp., Modeo, Motorola, Nokia and Texas Instruments and will concentrate its efforts on promoting standards and practices for delivering high quality broadcast television to mobile devices in the North American market.

"The mobile TV market is heating up, with both trials and deployments accelerating over the next 12 to 18 months," said David Linsalata, IDC research analyst for mobile markets. "The support of key industry players in promoting the advantages of the DVB-H standard will significantly aid mobile TV deployment efforts in North America."
