Gemstar-TV Guide and Digeo, two companies that have seen better days, can at least now spend less on lawyers. The companies have settled litigation and entered into a patent license agreement.
In the agreement, Gemstar TV-Guide provides Digeo, maker of the Moxi digital media recorder, with a patent license to cover Digeo’s currently deployed program guides, as well as IPGs that Digeo plans to deploy with service providers and for use on consumer electronic and personal computer platforms, Gemstar-TV Guide said in a brief announcement.
Earlier this year, Digeo, a company controlled by Paul Allen, eliminated its previously announced Moxi multiroom HD DMR and the Moxi Home Cinema Edition DMR in favor of what it called “next-generation” consumer DMRs with details to be announced later in the year. The company also cut nearly half its workforce.
Tuesday (April 29), Gemstar-TV Guide stockholders will vote whether to approve the takeover of the company by Santa Clara, Calif.-based digital rights management solutions provider Macrovision Corp.
