Autodesk has inked a deal to acquire 3D graphics company Alias for $182 million in cash. The deal--which is expected to close within four to six months--is subject to closing conditions. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005, Alias revenues were $83 million. The Alias acquisition is the company's fourth this year and second largest in the company's history, according to reports.
Toronto, Canada-based Alias's Alias FBX, which is used to exchange 3D content, and Maya, the company's Academy Award-winning 3D application, will be added to the Autodesk film and video and interactive game lines. BMW, General Motors, Nintendo, DreamWorks, among others, are Alias customers.
San Rafael, Calif.-based Autodesk says it will continue to develop the Alias product lines in conjunction with its complementary products and technologies.
