AT&T Scores Hearst-Argyle and Music Choice
February 8, 2007
AT&T has added Hearst-Argyle TV stations to the channel lineup for its U-verse television service. The giant phoner this week said it landed a "long-term" retransmission deal with Hearst-Argyle station in six markets where U-verse is being rolled out. Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The hybrid copper/fiber IPTV service is currently available in parts of Houston and San Antonio, Texas; San Ramon and San Jose, Calif.; Hartford, New Haven and Stamford, Conn.; and Indianapolis, Anderson, Bloomington and Muncie, Ind. There are no Hearst-Argyle stations listed in those communities, but AT&T said it expects to reach 19 million households by the end of 2008, presumably picking up a few Hearst-Argyle markets.
AT&T also picked up the Music Choice digital audio package for U-verse, as well as the A&E TV networks, which include A&E Network, The History Channel, The History Channel En Español, The Biography Channel, History International, Crime & Investigation Network and The Military History Channel.
