TSL to show new audio monitor

TSL will launch its new PAM2-3G16 professional audio monitor at IBC 2009 (stand 10.B41).

The PAM2-3G16 is a multistandard, multiformat device that simplifies multichannel audio monitoring via preset menus and shortcut keys for rapid and intuitive access to critical elements of complex broadcast audio systems.

Jointly designed by TSL and its partner, Celtic Audio, the PAM2-3G16’s menu structure and operational modes were further developed in consultation with professional audio engineers.

The PAM2-3G16 features a “scroll to hear” function. A monitoring menu is used to select the audio heard from the unit’s speaker system and then it superimposes a yellow box around the bar graph representing the audio being heard. The scroll feature enables the operator to move the “hear” box across the bar graph display by manually rotating the encoder. This feature is particularly useful in multilanguage and surround-sound applications when a user needs to quickly or repeatedly check the integrity of an individual audio component.

The new PAM2-3G16 also features tools for measuring program loudness and Dolby metadata. ITU-R BS.1770 loudness levels are represented as a moving horizontal line superimposed across the bar graph display with an alphanumeric value shown on screen. The time constant may be varied by the user and the value viewed adjacent to a Dolby dialogue normalization (dialnorm) metadata parameter when appropriate. Dolby metadata displays can be tailored to show a wide range of values extracted by the optional Dolby CAT552 E/AC-3 decoder card.

OLED technology offers additional benefits in terms of extremely high reliability, exceptional image viewing angle and low power consumption. The PAM2-3G16 is a fan-free device, so it requires minimal power and produces no ambient noise.
