TransAudio to debut Daking FET III stereo compressor at AES
Pro audio distribution firm TransAudio Group will introduce the Daking FET III, a new dual-channel, 2RU compressor incorporating Class A discrete circuitry and gain stages, at the upcoming AES Convention in New York. The FET III builds on the quality and performance benchmarks set by the Daking FET II single-channel model while adding several front-panel features for enhanced user control.
The Daking FET III design uses the same audio path and detector circuits as the FET II. The FET III adds new variable high-pass filters — from 0Hz to 200Hz — at the detector stage to improve and customize the behavior of each limiter channel. Signal content below the HPF frequency setting will not trigger the limiter, a design feature that is extremely beneficial in fine-tuning limiter behavior on bass-heavy material, for example.
The FET III, which is essentially two independent limiters, uses audio summing for stereo linking, a more accurate method than the control voltage summing supported by the FET II design. The stereo link is continuously variable from 0 to 100 percent, which allows the operation of each channel to be tied together to the desired degree.
All FET III front-panel controls are fully variable rotary pots, which provide the ability to fine-tune the behavior of the unit in the studio. Daking will continue to offer the FET II.
Inputs and outputs are electronically balanced in the Daking FET III. The unit offers an output level of 24dB, is fully RoHS compliant and provides storage in the back panel for the external power supply.
