Minnesota Public Radio goes all Genelec

All new production facilities at the Minnesota Public Radio facility upgrade in St. Paul use Genelec monitors to ensure a consistent sonic signature.

Minnesota Public Radio has announced a new expansion of its facilities in St. Paul, more than doubling the broadcaster’s headquarters to more than 135,000sq ft. Every one of the 19 new studios, control rooms and edit suites is outfitted with Genelec monitoring. According to the broadcaster, by using a single supplier, spaces as diverse as large recording studios and control rooms to small edit bays, could achieve unique yet consistent monitoring while still meeting the individual requirements of each space.

In the new broadcast annex, four control rooms are fitted with a combination of Genelec 8030A monitoring systems and 7050B active subwoofers, and two more control rooms have Genelec 8040A monitors and 7060A subs. Two new broadcast studios employ Genelec 8040A monitors, while the news booth relies on Genelec 8020A monitors. Ten new edit suites are equipped with Genelec 8020A monitors and 7050B subs. These join the Genelec 1030A monitors already in use in MPR’s recording studio, and Genelec S30D monitors in the broadcast studios and control rooms of the original facility. A new satellite uplink facility will feature Genelec’s 8040A monitoring system.

By creating a consistent sonic signature across the entire Minnesota Public Radio facility, consistent and neutral sound reproduction was achieved throughout both new and existing facilities. As projects move from room to room in the production process, audio adjustments can now be made without compromising quality and consistency.
