Genelec scores at Eurovision Song Contest

Genelec has announced its commitment to provide all the speaker systems for the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, which will be watched by an estimated 150 million people. Finnish national broadcaster YLE will broadcast the event live from Helsinki’s Hartwall Arena on May 12. YLE has already had a long collaboration with Genelec, having employed its monitoring systems for more than 25 years in its studios.

For the event, Genelec is providing YLE with 34 pieces of monitor speakers in all, for venues including the master control room, viewing room and green room. YLE has requested Genelec 8200 and 7200 DSP series monitors with Genelec Loudspeaker Management and AutoCal for mission critical areas. These monitors are ideal for temporary setups, as they automatically measure, analyze and calibrate to compensate for less-than-perfect room acoustics, allowing quick and accurate setup.

Eurovision Song Contest 2007 audio designer Pasi Vatunen notes that the scope of the event will require building a temporary music mixing control room at the Helsinki Arena, and that the Genelec DSP models are a perfect solution to achieve proper monitoring. All key areas will be supported with 5.1 playback systems.

This will be the 51st Eurovision Song Contest. It was first broadcast in 1956, making it one of the longest-running TV shows in the world. Artists from 42 countries will compete in this year’s event.
