Aviom expands audio networking platform

Aviom exhibited its new 6416dio Digital I/O module, which is designed to work with the company’s Pro64 audio networking platform. The platform leverages the company’s existing audio transport protocol, called A-Net.

The 6416dio makes moving digital audio long distances easy and reliable, regardless of the application or the audio equipment used. The module is available with either DB25 multipins or BNC connectors for digital audio I/O, making it equally at home in live productions or hard-core broadcast environments.

Using the AES3 format, the new module offers 16 channels of digital inputs and outputs to and from a Pro64 A‑Net audio network in a single 2RU unit.

The 6416dio streamlines digital audio distribution by simplifying clock architecture and managing jitter, wander and latency at the system level, using Aviom’s proprietary clock dejitter algorithms. The 6416dio can sync to the module’s internal clock, the distributed network clock, an AES digital input, or an external word clock. The selected clock can then be distributed throughout the network and is also output locally through word clock as well as embedded in the AES3 outputs.

The 6416dio supports three ranges of variable sample rates, from 44.1/48kHz± to 192kHz±, all at 24 bits. All 16 inputs and outputs may be used regardless of the sample rate, and the input and output sections of the module can be independently configured for network base slot and port assignments. Each channel of a 6416dio can be made active on the Pro64 audio network as needed. DB25 connectors for both the Yamaha and Digidesign/Tascam-compatible pinouts are provided on the DB25 version.

The 6416dio also includes I/O for the company’s Virtual Data Cables, which can be used for simultaneously distributing up to 14 channels of non‑audio control data to any device on the Pro64 network. The 6416dio provides connectors for RS‑232 or RS‑422, as well as GPIO remote control.
